About Slibo Witch

I like programming no matter if it’s for online or offline use. Basicly everything is only about structuring data and presenting it in an useful and easy to comprehend way.

My first encounter with computers was when my highschool, in the eighties, decides to get some PET’s, also known as Commodore Business Machines. The PET was the main predecessor for the very popular Commodore 64, which was also intended, allthough not primarily for home and gaming use.

With some friends we discovered the BASIC programming language. Because this language was quite rudimentary we invented other commands to simplify other tasks. Because a hard drive was non-existent at that time and internal memory was also scarce, we soon changed to Assembler: much faster and taking a whole lot less space.
After a year or so, we had nothing to learn or discover anymore, so our playing with computers was abandoned.

Some years after that a 8088 came into my parents house. He needed the machine for writing a book, which beforehand had been typed by hand. I had some encounters with Pascal, but my dad was also quite carefull that his machine would not become unavailable.
I only remember looking at some fractals plotted on the screen with a program called Sierpinski.

Another couple years after that in university I ran into the first computernetwork I would see: Sun OS 5 on Sparcs, for scientific use, 386s for WordPerfect and QuattroPro and MacIntosh printers. A nice combination that caused lots of trouble. But also my first encounters with internet.

And again simple Pascal programming courses.
After university I ran into some Cobol programming training, for Mainframe development. A new century was rapidly approaching and in Europe we also had the Euro conversion, which headed lots of programming tasks.

At last I started earning a living due to what had been a hobby for a long time already.
